Major Surf History Exhibition at Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Scotland

The Oxbow sponsored British Surfing Museum is staging a major surf history exhibition at Aberdeen Maritime Museum in Scotland, featuring the unique replica of an ancient surfboard once owned by Hawaiian-Scottish Princess Victoria Ka'iulani.

"What an amazing year it's been for Scottish surfing with the success of the WQS world championships up at Thurso recently and Russ Winter's big win," said museum director Pete Robinson. "I'm really proud to be presenting the first ever exhibition of British surfing history to be held in Scotland."

Now you can look back at how surfing developed in the UK since the time Captain James Cook first saw people riding waves on surfboards in Hawaii in 1778.

Some of Cook's crew were Scottish and it started an amazing era of connection between the Hawaiians and the Scots - perhaps non more incredible than the story of the half Hawaiian - half Scottish Princess Victoria Ka'iulani Cleghorn who was an expert surfer in the late 1800s.

You can see an exact replica of her ancient surfboard hand crafted using traditional techniques for The Surfing Museum by Tom Pohaku Stone.

There are also photos of the first waves ever ridden in Scotland and a fantastic collection of original classic British surfboards and memorabilia showing how surfing has developed here since the early 1900s.

You’ll also be able to see the new ‘eco’ balsa surfboard made by the Eden Project in Cornwall – showing how shapers are trying to find a way of going full circle back to natural products. It has been built as a challenge to all businesses to clean up their act, and Chris Hines' original Surfers Against Sewage campaign board.

The Independent Horse - British Horsesurfing Club

Want a new thrill? Then get this! Who says that there are no new ways to enjoy the surf? What a buzz...

The Independent Horse is a team of young professional like minded performers, who work in both film and live shows.  Their goal under the direction of Daniel is to constantly push the limits of what can be achieved with horses and a little imagination.

Earlier this year they joined forces with the Company of Horsemen, extremesportsphoto.com and Air jam to complete one of the most daring and inventive photo shoots in recent times. Being the first team possibly in the world to not only to perform extreme riding tricks in the sea but to tow a wake boarder though the surf. And this is just the beginning.

The Independent Horse takes the same initiative into its live shows forever looking for the new dimension to keep one step ahead of the rest.

Lennox Longboarders 2006 Classic

The 2006 Lennox Longboard Classic, held on the 5th and 6th August, brought together over 116 longboarders covering 10 divisions, from Cadets U/14’s Through to Over 55’s, a Old Mal division, Open Ladies & prizes to the best Over 35’s lady & best U/18 Junior lady as well as a best nose ride award.

Saturday 5th - First day of the event with heats of all divisions & semi finals of two divisions surfed in the afternoon. Saturday brought us mixed conditions, compared to the pristine conditions of the mid week. The location was Lennox Head main beach in front of the Lennox Point hotel. We we’re met with Cloudy intermittent rain with breaks of sunshine but we had offshore winds and a good beach break to pick from. Surf size around the one metre mark & working most of the day.

Sunday 6th - Brought us a mixed wild day with a vast increase in swell. Surfing was again at Lennox main the preferred location. Some 6 to 10ft sets pounding throughout the day with some incredible surfing from out the back from the competitors from the Open 9ft division & a standout ride in the Old Mal final by Jackson Close, from Currumbin QLD riding a heavy old mal in basically huge sets,The wave of the whole event.

The comp this year brought a contingent from across the Tasman and New Zealand. They all preformed with distinction. Surfers also came from Noosa in Queensland, Victoria & South Australia.

Proceeds of the raffle went to the NSW Cancer Council & The Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

A big thank you goes to all the sponsors of the event, especially the Lennox Head Bush Fire Brigade who again did the catering in trying weather conditions. Also a big thank you to all the competitors, without them there is no event.

Car Key Security Padlock

Surf Lock is the ideal solution to an age-old problem. It is not safe to leave your car keys hidden somewhere on your car, wrapped up in a beach towel or under a cap.

Thieves are known to scour vehicles parked at beaches looking for car keys and immobilisers that have been left unattended.

Surf Lock can be easily attached to different locations on your car, providing a safe and secure place to store your car keys or immobiliser while enjoying the outdoors. When not in use, the lock is small enough to be kept in the glove box of your car.

Surf Lock is ideal for surfers and swimmers, people out walking and jogging, boating and fishing.

It can be secured to the tie down on your vehicle, your roof rack, wheel or trailer and is great anytime you need to leave your car but can't or don't want to carry your keys with you.

Car immobilisers may be very convenient but once found by the wrong person can be easily used to enter your vehicle and steal your belongings. This is unfortunately a common occurrence at our local beaches. Don't become a statistic. Take security seriously with Surf Lock and don't be left watching from your surfboard as someone drives off in your car!

Surf Lock can be easily secured to the tie-down on your vehicle, your roof-rack, wheel or trailer - ideal any time you need to leave your car but cannot take your car keys or immobiliser with you.

Use Surf Lock when family members or friends need access to your car or when several people need access to the same place such as a construction site or maintenance shed. You can attach your Surf Lock to sheds, gates and trailers.
