Illawarra Titles |
The date for the Illawarra Titles 2006 has been set. It is the 8-9th April at 7.00 am at Garie Beach Car park. To save entry costs to the park people are recommended to travel in groups or meet outside the park and travel in 1 car. Make sure you have your Surfing Australia membership paid up so get them in now. The more financial members we have from the Illawarra means the more people from the Illawarra will go to the State Competition.
Also this year if you have to travel large distances to attend state events then Surfing Illawarra will help with travel expenses. This year the state events are:
State Titles
16-18th June 2006 State Opens Maroubra
4-6th August 2006 State Masters / Women's Port Macquarie
7-11th September 2006 Juniors Coffs HarbourAustralian Titles
3-9th September 2006 Opens Torquay
25thNov - 2ndDec 2006 Juniors Ballina
This means that ALL masters , women's and juniors will be assisted with $50 to attend these events. If you make it to the nationals then All surfers will be assisted with $100 - $200 depending on how many people make it.
See your club president to see how you can claim the cash.When the entry forms are available please get them in early to save disappointment. Snail mail can take 3 -4 days to arrive and names will only be entered into the draw with a PAID form. "But I sent it of the other day" counts for nothing unless it actually gets here on time.
The draw is done 2 days before the event and beach entries are limited to available places only. Only the first 80 entries received will get a contest shirt so first in best dressed. Hope to see you there.
The heat draw for the Illawarra Titles will be done on Thursday night before the event. All emails I receive before the event will get a reply to the first 10 heats of each day to find when you are surfing. Friday is the day to check your email.
Phone calls just before the event will only receive an answer machine message with probably less info.
A definite is Open Mens will surf on Sunday only. Depending on numbers cadets . womens , seniors will all take part on Saturday only. Juniors could be both days.
Remember entries close last snail mail Thursday. Entries after this are for only left over spots in a heat so no guarantee. Names will only be entered into the draw with payment received. No phone entries accepted.

Please Note: there is a mistake on the entry form. There is an under 14 girls division. If you are eligible for this division please just write the division on the entry form. The division is for girls who turn 13 this year.

On the 17th March 2006 I will be holding my first photographic exhibition at the Sand Bar and Grill at Casuarina. The exhibition will showcase a lot of new limited edition works and abstract impressions of our surfing culture. I have attached just a small sample of what will be on show. Of particular interest is the photo of Legend Shaper Dick Van Straalen which is limited to just 3 copies, one for me, one for Dick and one to go with the very board he is shaping which will also be on display at the exhibition.
The exhibition is free of charge and starts at 7pm Queensland time on the 17th March and will be accompanied with groovy tunes from a local band The Living Room. There will be limited drinks provided but the adjacent Sand Bar and Grill can cater for your specific needs. There is also a large grassed area so children are more than welcomed.

The next Werri Slash is to be held on the 21st, 22nd & 23rd April 2006.
The contest is open to all residents from the Illawarra to the Victorian border. There are limited entries available. Entries close on Monday the 17th April (or earlier if the division fills).
Cadets & Junior events begin on Friday.
Opens & Seniors events begin on Saturday.
Women, semis and finals are on Sunday.
