On the 11 and 12 of September the First PIPELINE SOFT LONGBOARDS CONTEST was held at Silveira Beach in Garopaba/SC- Brazil.
With 5 foot waves the first six riders carved their names in to Surf History. With winter about to expire, we are in two minds whether to celebrate. The days are longer, but the swells are not as big and clean. Gone are the long lasting land breezes and the seven day off shores. But we shouldn’t complain as the onshore only comes up now and then. And the surf is still cooking!
East London beach break. The swell keeps on coming. Not as big as winter, but still fun.
Another beach break right in East London. The points are also going off. Those points that don’t like the south westerly swell of winter now produce the goodies…
A little cover up at a secret point near East London. And there are more lefts!
Un crowded river mouth break Goofy and loving it! Thick lipped beach break left. The water’s warmer and the breezes are balmy. Africa has it’s problems, but for a surfer – none… Roger runs Dawn patrol, a surf tour operation based in East London, on the south east coast of South Africa. The Roaring Forties produce endless swell which wraps around this coast to be fanned by the prevailing south westerly offshore wind. The Dawn patrol team take their guests to all the best spots on this coast, and also visit J-Bay when the swell picks up.Check out their site at www.dawnpatrol.co.za

Gumby Lock has long been concerned about the number of people that leave their cars unsecured whilst surfing. That is why we developed the special Gumby Lanyard so that surfers could take a car key with them while surfing and know that the tension ball would keep it from coming off in big surf. We totally support the concept of Key Safe and commend its design. (Ed) The Key Safe by Cr8me Designs Car thefts and break-ins from beach car parks cost the insurance industry an estimated 16 million last year alone, with the majority being caused by surfers leaving keys in an unsecured location - "hidden on the vehicles." This has led to a major re-think by insurance companies to close the grey area regarding thefts and break-ins to motor vehicles using the cars own keys. This means they may no longer cover these instances, leaving surfers who drive to the beach in a difficult position. Surfers are seen as a soft target to both joy riders and pros alike, you only have to go any popular beach to see how easy it would bee to gain access to a surfer’s car by watching them as they hide there keys before they go for a surf. With virtually all modern cars now coming out with some form of electronic key or remote keys they have left the modern surfer with no alternative as these keys don’t like water and are very expensive to replace. Take the Holden Commodore Three button key for example - this will set you back between $300 and $350 dollars to replace and re-program after its been wet, and any luxury car around $500. Key Safe
