The 2004 Whalebone Classic held at Iso's and was the best yet with mother nature turning it on for the two day and three night event.
A small swell greeted us early Saturday continued to build throughout the competition. By the Sunday finals there were head high sets rolling through.
Congratulations to the Cottesloe Cooking Team who fed and watered the huge crowd assembled.
Queensland's Jackson Close beat Erin Nicholls (2nd) Rahn Goddard (3rd) and Tim Fitzpatrick (4th) to claim the Pro Am.

The South Eastern Regional Fire Fighters run and partake in monthly inter-station surfing competition covering participants from Coolangatta to Noosa, with some firies even making the journey from as far north as Bundaberg. The Fire & Surf Boardriders Club has been active since January 1999, now boasting 34 members, most of who compete each month. Membership is open to all Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Employees competing in Short and Long Board categories. In our initial years of the club, our main purpose was to aid camaraderie and sanctuary to the Fire Fighters in a social atmosphere. We started with a small bunch of blokes who have become more and more competitive in a fun way. The numbers have increased dramatically each month, which is fantastic. In many ways, our club seems to post a sense of counseling to our off duty Fire Fighter members. September 11, 2001, the world witnessed a horrific act of terrorism when the World Trade Centre in New York City was attacked. Many lives were lost by both civilians and emergency service personnel who were simply carrying out their duties. In a mark of respect to our fallen brothers the Fire & Surf Boardriders held a 911 Memorial surfing competition last year and attracted 60 participants from all emergency service sectors of Australia. During that day several raffles and donations were made by the competitors and general public in which proceeds were passed on to the Children’s Hospital Burns Unit. This year, our low profile competition has become amazingly special. The attraction of interstate and international emergency service visitors has made this event something that all our colleagues worldwide will look forward to. And with the help of outside sponsorships and Local Television and Radio support, the base has been formed for a worldwide recognised memorial event.

This is for those locals who can walk or cycle to the beach. An interesting idea on an age old problem - how do you carry your board and your stuff on your bike? (Ed) (Note - some of the images on the web site take some time to download) The Surfboard Transport System Mule is a new and unique way to transport your board(s) and ALL your gear to the break in one effortless trip.
