Missing Boy

Dear readers,

It is not usually our policy to promote missing person information but we thought this one was an exception. We received the information via a friend of mine recently. As a father with a son of a similar age our hearts go out to the parents and to the missing boy. We hope he will be located very soon. (Richard)

Hello everyone,
Many of you will have seen reports or ads about a missing schoolboy Daniel Morcombe from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Daniel has been missing for five months today.

He's my nephew, and my brother Bruce and his wife Denise, have raised over $100,000 to fund an advertising campaign, which is currently underway, in an attempt to solve Daniel's abduction and hopefully to capture the person or persons involved. There has been wonderful coverage of this tragic event, including "Australian Story" on the ABC, and a major article in the current edition of "The Australian Women's Weekly", but still the crime is not solved.

The police now think two men were probably involved, together with a "blue car" as per the composite photo below. Sending out emails may hopefully trigger someone's memory, or someone's conscience, and makes the image of Daniel and the "blue car" below available for longer than is available on an ad.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could forward the details on to all your email contacts, friends, relatives and business contacts, in the hope that someone will be able to provide the missing clue that the police are looking for. If everyone has just five email contacts, who each have five email contacts, who each have five email contacts, who each have five email contacts, that'll be well over a million people we'll be reaching.

Thanks a lot - it's really appreciated.

The Indo Board Balance Trainer

The Indo Board Balance Trainer is a specially shaped, oval board, balanced on a long roller. Using the Indo Board for fun or as a serious workout helps the user develop balance coordination and increased leg strength while enhancing, all-important, core fitness.

It also improves motor skills making the Indo Board a great cross training tool for a variety of sports, from extreme boardsports to all mainstream sports that require agility and innate balance coordination.

Football, basketball, tennis, hockey, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse and inline skating all utilize the same core muscles that provide functional reflex strength, which the Indo Board uniquely focuses on.

The Indo Board can be used wherever an open 6’ surface area is available, indoors or out (a carpeted area is recommended for beginners). The learning curve for most enthusiasts is about 5-15 minutes to master basic control of the device.

For those ready to progress to a higher performance level, or for taller Indo Board enthusiasts, the larger Indo Pro model provides increased surface area on the board, thus making it a more challenging and entertaining ride.

Surfer Hunter Joslin, with 38 years of surfing experience, developed the Indo Board during a 25 year span, starting with the first proto-type in 1975. Originally designed to train surfers out of the water, Joslin quickly discovered from his growing cadre of loyal Indo Board fans that the apparatus was much more than a surfing simulator.

Users reported increased leg strength and core fitness, as well as flexibility while experiencing a high degree of entertainment when using the Board. In 2000, Joslin decided to market the Board commercially, developing a web site and distribution channel and taking the fitness tool to surf and fitness oriented trade shows.

The Indo Board is designed to appeal to men and women of all ages (from 4 years old to 80+) and fitness levels who may want either a serious cross training device for their sport of choice, or just a tool for simply having fun.

Enthusiasts include 85-year-old bare foot water skier Banana George Blair (who says he can’t get enough of it), X-FILES creator Chris Carter - even in Australia the number one Australian Rules football team the “ESSEND0N Bombers” use Indo Boards as an important conditioning device.

It’s also a favorite training tool of world champion athletes including surfers Layne Beachley, Laird Hamilton and Joel Tudor, wake boarders Darin Shapiro, Sonja Sheffler, Parks Bonifay and Tara Hamilton, water skiers Freddy Krueger and Toni Neville, mountain boarder Akoni Kama and downhill skate boarder Biker Sherlock.

Surfing has forever suffered from the lack of repetitive training while in the water. Riding the Indo Board, first and foremost IS FUN! The bonus is that it will strengthen your legs and improve your surfing after just using it a few times.

If you are serious about cross training for surfing, then the Indo Board is the ideal device to keep you tuned when you are not in the water. The Indo Board works for ALL surfers, whether you ride a shortboard or a longboard.

Leg strength is the most overlooked physical necessity of all surfers. Improve your leg strength and your surfing will improve guaranteed!

The Indo Board provides you with a totally fun way to surf better!

Mentawai Islands Surf Report and Introducing Wave of Compassion
Mentawai Islands Surf Report:
May 17, 2004 brought to you by Saraina Koat Mentawai Surf Charters and Cultural Tours.

The following is an excerpt from their full report (Ed.)

Present and Future:
Current conditions have wave heights in the 3-6 foot range. Jordan is currently surfing in his favorite stomping grounds - Playgrounds - and said via satellite phone that yesterday their group surfed Pitstops a foot overhead, really glassy with everyone was having a blast. Pitstops sits on the opposite side of a small headland as E-Bay - it barrels on take-off before unwinding over a tame sand bottom all the way to shore; a rarity in the Mentawai Islands.

Out on the horizon it's not too difficult to see that the Indian Ocean is very active with an impressive array of storms developing and moving across the broad expanse of the southern Indian Ocean. We've got two systems in particular that really are showing promise. Starting this Saturday we should have a solid double-overhead southwest swell filling in with the weather expected to be pretty calm and pleasant. Nice.

You're the first people to see this:
SKM has worked unbelievably hard on a special event to benefit the people of the Mentawai Islands in conjunction with Surf Aid International - a non-profit organization that operates over there. Needless to say, we're optimistic that this event, called "Wave of Compassion" will be well received and be a huge success for everyone involved. Here's the press release; look for the internet to be swarming with Wave of Compassion promotional materials over the next 3 months - we'd love to see you participate:

Wave of Compassion is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the everyday surfer to make history. One grand prize winner will win an all expense paid boat trip with Strider Wasilewski, Ben Bourgeois, David Rastovich, Jason Bogle, and Surfer Magazine on a surf/cultural expedition to the Mentawai Islands for 10 days. The grand prize winner may bring one friend, spouse or partner to accompany them on the trip.

The grand prize winner and their guest not only get a chance to surf the unparalleled Mentawai's with four unbelievable surfers for ten days, but the entire trip will be photographed and covered by an A-List Surfer Magazine editorial crew. The winners, everyday surfers from the United States, will be the featured attraction alongside Strider Wasilewski, Ben Bourgeois, David Rastovich, and Jason Bogle in the Surfer Magazine/Surfermag.com article(s).

The good folks at Surfer Magazine have also agreed that if one of the grand prize winners scores a prize-winning photo they have a realistic chance at getting their shot on the cover of Surfer Magazine.

The trip will include an upriver visit to a Mentawai village to learn about the Mentawai people and their culture, a visit with Dr. Dave to witness and participate in Surf Aid's frontline efforts to combat malaria and disease on the islands; a brief visit to a local area school; and of course, having your mind utterly altered for 10 days of perfect surf with four of the best surfers on the planet giving you pointers.

Winners will be chosen on September 3, 2004; actual trip dates will be October 9 - October 20, 2004 on board Saraina Koat Mentawai's surf charter boat, the Midas. The winner will have five weeks notice before the trip's departure.

In addition to the Grand Prize give-away we will also be giving away a variety of insane monthly prizes . Monthly prizes will be chosen on the last day of each month. All monthly prize winners continue to be eligible to win more monthly prizes including the Grand Prize trip.

How can you enter to win the grand prize giveaway and support the people of the Mentawai Islands? Click here to find out www.waveofcompassion.org
