If you frequently surf in cold-water without protection,
it’s not so much a question of “if” you’ll develop
Surfer’s Ear (aka: external auditory exostosis or EAE); it’s
more a question of “when”.
Repeated exposure to cold water and wind causes the ear
canal to grow bone. One study reported ~74% of avid surfers had some degree
of surfer’s ear*. Though everyone agrees that an ounce of prevention
is worth a pound of cure, most surfers choose not to wear any form of
ear protection in cold water. Why? Maybe because plugs tend to interfere
with hearing while hoods are uncomfortable and restrict movement.

SurfMuff™ was developed to overcome these shortcomings
by providing comfort and protection while letting you hear. The patented
neoprene headband design offers surfers a superior alternative to plugs
and hoods at a reasonable cost (US$12-15).
The special sharkskin interior resists slippage and the
chin strap helps prevent loss in overhead surf. An adjustable Velcro rear
fastener enables the SurfMuff™ to fit a wide range of head sizes.
Next time you paddle out into winter surf, slip your head into a `muff
- SurfMuff™ - the superior alternative to plugs and hoods.
You can order SurfMuff™ online @ www.SurfMuff.com
or ask your local retailer to stock SurfMuff™ (wholesale available).
You can email Scott at Surfmuff1@aol.com.

| More manoeuvrable than
body surfing. More portable than a Boogie Board...
A Handboard will get you where you want to be...from the crystal
clear barrels of an empty reef to the gnarly drops of your windblown
hometown shore break.
Designed and developed in Hawaii, these
durable, wooden, twin finned handboards, over the years, have been
to many of the breaks in the islands and also have been slipped
into suitcases and backpacks to enjoy fun little waves all over
the world...California, Mexico, Tahiti, New Zealand.
Not a plastic tray or a one-size-fits-all,
mass produced toy, a Handboard Co. handboard is a distinctive, well-though
out hand crafted body surfing handboard custom made to the surfer's
specifications.
The materials used to create each handboard
are carefully chosen for beauty and durability allowing the owner
to proudly enjoy his handboard for many years...and many, many waves.
Each Handboard Company handboard begins
with carefully selected domestic softwood. The classic elegance
of Hawaiian Koa wood, or the traditional surfboard look of Redwood,
or, maybe, the solid black strength of High-Tech Composite is chosen
as the stringer material.
After Lamination, the blank is traced
with a template specifically sized to the surfer's forearm length.
Cutting out, shaping and sanding are next. The black skegs, half
foiled, with a low aspect ratio template, are then glassed on.
Multiple coats of durable polyurethane
finish are applied, then rubbed out to a high gloss. The finished
board is beautiful. You can tell it's going to be fun and fast just
looking at it.
