Bic Challenge
Rainbow Bay
The concept of the Bic Challenge was conceived in July of 2000 when ex-world surfing champion, Nat Young and Bic Sport introduced the first ever One-Design surfing contest at the Biarritz Surf Festival as a display event. The Bic Challenge surf contest series is unique in that every competitor surfs on one of two possible surfboard shapes right throughout the event. By equalizing the equipment, only the intrinsic surfing ability of the athlete is considered. In the spirit of fairness, the surfers may choose between two Bic Sport Surfboards - either the 9’ Classic or the 10’ Noserider - so that a 95kg surfer and a 50kg surfer can compete in the same heat and not have any disadvantages.

Surfers have always used whatever they could get paws on to get them to the beach. From '38 Ford’s, to the Woody, from 64 EH Holden’s to mums taxi.  All have been the symbol of surf transportation. In the case of the VW Van, it was a vehicle that allowed surfers the option to live, surf or sleep in their version of the mobile home. It's still a cool ride even in today's world. Here will be a procession of super cool rides that will feature in a rally from the northern end of the Gold Coast to take pride of place in a specially reserved parking area near the surfing venue for all to see.
