Powerski adopts Orbital's Direct Injection technology

SAN CLEMEMTE, Calif. April 4, 2005, PowerSki International Corporation (PSI) has signed a development agreement with Orbital Corporation Limited of Perth, Australia, to adapt air assist direct injection (DI) to Powerski’s patented Supertorque XT™ Marine Engine. Applying DI to this engine will result in lower exhaust emissions, greater fuel economy and more reliable starts.

Bob Montgomery, CEO, states “Today we are using a catalytic converter on our carbureted 2-stroke engine to meet US EPA emissions. A DI 2-stroke version will allow us to meet global emissions regulations, including in California, without the need for a catalyst. We are also developing a 4-stroke alternative to meet market demands. Orbital’s direct fuel injection is the next step in the overall plan to be lean, mean, and green! Orbital has been in business for over 30 years and has DI systems on marine applications such as Mercury Marine’s OptiMax outboards and BRP’s Sea Doo personal watercraft. Direct injection is widely recognized as "next generation" fuel system technology that substantially improves fuel economy and exhaust emissions of conventional internal combustion gasoline engines. It involves injecting the fuel directly into the cylinder (combustion chamber) of an engine, instead of indirectly through an inlet port as would be the case in a port fuel injection (PFI) or a carburetor engine.
